Unfortunately, Herr Louis Doberman did not made a record of the different breeds that he paired up in order to develop the Doberman. In Germany, the National Dobermann Pinscher Club was formed in 1899. A year after that, Otto Goeller and the members of the club set the standards for the Doberman. Immediately, the German Kennel Club recognized the Doberman man as a distinctive breed.

It was only around 1908 when the Doberman was introduced in United States. And by the year 1921, fanatics formed the Doberman Pinscher Club of America. In 1922, the breed’s standards that were written in German was translated and adopted in United States. The Doberman history became very crucial as well as important during the next fifteen years.

During the World War I, the Doberman became almost extinct because of the depression and starvation experienced by the people that time particularly in Europe. Having a Doberman or any kind of dog for that matter is a luxury that not everybody could have. While others were letting their Dobermans become stray dogs, there are some who cruelly kill their canines instead. Only those who are in authority or working in armed forces were able to own and feed the Doberman. Therefore, to prevent the Doberman from being extinct, it is a must that the Doberman multiply. At the Second World War, the Doberman was also at its brink of extinction. But thanks to the Dobermans that were purchased, owned, and fed by the Americans, it became possible for the Dobermans to breed again.

The breeder from America asked the judges from Germany to give advices about the Doberman, its traits, temperaments, and everything about the dog so that he could take care of the canine easily. However, this breed was rarely seen in Great Britain not until 1947.
